Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a book with a simple principle that if you believe in something and put all your positive energy into believing that you can have something and should have something, that it will come to you.

In this case it is referring to gaining money, saying that if you can make your mind believe that you are rich and start to think as if you already are rich, that the money will follow. It’s quite a concept to think about, although, this is not really how the world works, but we’ll get to that.

This book is much like many others under the same heading (i.e. The Science of Getting Rich, Ask and it is Given, and The Traveler’s Gift). They are all based on the law of attraction, which says once you desire something, and then make yourself believe you have it and have your whole person believe you should have it and will have it, it will come to you.

You may have heard of the movie, ‘The Secret’. It too has this premise. It’s a great thought, but it’s not realistic. How many people in the world are barely scraping by or are hungry or homeless that believe they deserve better? I’m sure they all do, but just because they think they deserve more than they have is not putting a roof over their head or food in their stomach.

The only way to fill your bank account and have more money than you know what to do with is to work, work hard, and earn it. No one is going to hand it to you. You have to get it for yourself.

What is most frustrating about the book is that it makes it seem that as soon as you put some brain power into believing that you deserve riches, that they will just come pouring in and what’s all you have to do. Sure you can use energy to get money, but not in this way.

The way it actually works is instead of daydreaming that you have a wad of cash in your hand, you put that energy into making and running a business or getting the education you need to be able to create and run a business. While MLM’s will disagree and say you can just think about it, the only way your brainpower is going to make you successful is if you use it to build and nurture yourself in the business world.

In that respect, the use of energy can work. If one were to use the energy in their brain as a motivator, as the energy to get moving and get to work in an attempt to be successful in the world. Using your energy as strength to drive you to success can work. Once you get up from just thinking about it, and work towards a successful future, you may see that success come to life.
